I just recently started using the protection module, an for some reason the tooltip balloon never appears when it blocks something. I can see in the log that it did block something, it just never warns me.

Hello.

Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click the 'Protection' tab. Tick the following option:

Show tooltip balloon when malicious website is blocked

That should get those balloons to start appearing again. By default that option is selected, so someone must have disabled it at some point

Just checked it's already ticked.

What operating system are you using? There is a delay in many cases of IP alerts. If you navigate away from the page too quickly, you won't get an alert. I've experienced this myself on my own system

OS: Windows XP Home Edition

I tried going to "http://iptest.malwarebytes.org/" to test it, the log shows it blocked it but I never saw an alert. I even left it trying to open the page for a minute just in case.

Thanks.

Please copy and paste the following text exactly as written into Notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):

@color 48
@echo off
reg query HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v EnableBalloonTips>"%userprofile%\desktop\Balloons.txt"
"%userprofile%\desktop\Balloons.txt"
del /f /q "%userprofile%\desktop\Balloons.txt"
del /f /q %0

Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...

In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files

Name the file TooltipCheck.bat (the .bat extension is very important)

Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.

Once it finishes it will open the file it created in notepad, please copy and paste the file's contents into your next reply.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running MBAM v1.50.1.1100 on Win7 Home Premium.

Questions:

1) Does this fix also apply to Win7 users?

2) Does the fix you gave in this thread supersede the fix given here on 25 November 2009?

3) If yes, do I need to delete the 25 November 2009 registry update I applied previously before applying the fix given here? If so, how?

Thanks, Rob

Please start your own thread, I do not want this to get confused with anything else, operating systems or not. Anything from 2009 can be ignored.

Huh? I stated I'm having the exact same problem - why would I need to start a new thread?

I suggest that the "Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions" topic (from 2009) be reviewed and corrected/updated.

I will delete the prior fix from 2009 and apply this fix. Thank you for your kind assistance.

Sorry that it took me a while to reply, I changed the value in the registry and the tooltip now appears when stuff is blocked. :D I feel a lot safer now since it's able to tell me now right when it blocks something, thank you so much for the help.

Glad that got resolved.
