Hi,

I use Avast and MalwareBytes and it is getting very tiresome having MalwareBytes pop up with a 'blocked' message on about 99% of the sites I

go to! Whether going to Google or I just open a blank browser, let alone visiting a actual site! (Yes the dreaded avastsvc.exe) :(

I am using the paid version of both programs.

These are both great programs - Why Can't They Work Together?

Thanks,

Bob

Hello romar,

MBAM is 'Reading' Avast!'s webguard process. MBAM is not really blocking Avast! it is just listing what process 'intercepts' the malicious IP. So in the balloon notification MBAM will say it has blocked a malicious IP and will show the process: 'Avastsvc.exe'.

Please attach your recent Protection log for a thorough diagnosis.

Thank you very much!

Greetings :)

The issue is not Avast!, it's actually just showing Avast! as the process because Avast!, like many AV's, intercepts all web traffic for analysis. It's actually your browser attempting to connect to the malicious IP, likely because of a BHO or plugin or because of the content of a web page you're attempting to visit. I expect that if you removed Avast! and installed a different AV, such as one that doesn't intercept traffic this way, like Microsoft Security Essentials, that the same IP blocks would occur, but it would show iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer) or Chrome.exe (Google Chrome) as the connecting program.

exile360,

PMFJI on this post, but one related question for you.

I use Avast 6.0.1125 and MalwareBytesPro 1.51.0.1200 together. In order to reduce conflicts, should I put exclusions in either or both programs for the other?

Tks.

It is not always needed, but I myself put the exceptions in to be safe...

  • Click the Exclusions section
  • Click on Browse next to the blank entry at the bottom of the list (this will be the only entry if no other exclusions have been set yet)
  • In the Select the areas window click on the + next to C:
  • Click the + next to Program Files Note: For 64 bit Windows versions this will be Program Files (x86)
  • Click the box next to Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on OK
  • Click OK again
  • Click on Web Shield on the left and click Expert Settings
  • Click on Exclusions and check the box next to URLs to exclude:

    *.mbamupdates.com
  • Click on OK
  • Click on Behavior Shield on the left and click Expert Settings
  • Click on Trusted Processes
  • Click on Browse next to the blank entry at the bottom of the list (this will be the only entry if no other exclusions have been set yet)
