I have a Google Redirect or search redirect problem on my home network.

Please help me get out of this network pain in the butt.

I've had this for about over a week and can't seem to figure out what the problem

is or how to get rid of it.

Following are the symtoms:

--------------------------

1) From www.google.com I am unable to click on the Images or Maps tabs

2) From www.google.com if I click Sign-In I get this Error window:

Secure Connection Failed

www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.

The certificate is only valid for 78-159-121-94.local

The certificate expired on 12/10/2010 10:06 AM.

(Error code: sec_error_expired_issuer_certificate)

3) If I try to read in my email from my Gmail account into Outlook I get this error:

Unable to connect to the server. (Account: '***myemail**@gmail.com',POP3

Server: 'pop.gmail.com',Error Number 0x800ccc03).

4) On the iTouch if I try to read in email from Gmail account I get this error:

The mail server 'imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.

5) If I goto www.yahoo.com , it also has similar redirection issues

6) By Redirection I mean

From www.google.com

Search for some topic

Then click on the url and it goes to

http://lookserch-resu1t.com/gosearch.php?q=some topic

and then quickly to this

http://www.addedsuccess.com/....

If I select the URL Properties and cut-n-paste the REAL URL into a browser address then I can actually get to the link

without. That is a workaround I've been using.

7) If I go to non-search type addresses it "seems" like that works fine.

8) The problem is happening on all 4 of my pcs on the network as well as iTouch

If I goto another network (say work for example) then the iTouch works fine for both email and Google searches.

9) If I unplug my linksys G router and plug it back in. THEN it seems like everything is okay for about 15-20 minutes then

at some point the problem comes back.

I tried, unplugging the linksys router and ONLY using an iTouch (all PCs powered off while trying this) and got the same behavior.

For about 15 - 20 minutes everything was fine. I tried several searches from www.google.com and all was well then boom I get the same

problem. The Gmail was reading in fine as well, then once the problem happens I get the #4 issue above.

10) I have both IE7 and Firefox on the various PCs. From one of the PCs Firefox I'm unable to Clear Private Data. I'm thinking of just uninstalling

Firefox, Cleaning out directory and reinstalling that Firefox. I don't know much about certificates, but I can't seem to remove

them from Firefox...and once I started looking at them, some of them I have no idea what they are.

11) I've tried to look at what is listed in the linksys Router status pages...but I'm not sure what is right and what is wrong.

I have setup WEP wireless security enabled.

I don't have the MAC security enabled.

That's pretty much it for what I've done on the router setup.

I have changed the default router login and pw...not sure if that was originally done or not.

----------

I'M GUESSING that I've got a Router problem based on all this, especially since the iTouch works on another network, but not on mine.

I'm not sure if iTouch could get infected with virus or not. Other postings I've seen about Google Redirection make me think that the

DNS is hijacked or some issue at the Router level...but I'm guessing that after the Factory Reset maybe something it still on the PC and

maybe gets re-infected??

I also think that the Browsers need to be cleaned up some how on all the PCs, not really sure how to proceed with that.

-----------

I have tried

- going into SafeMode on the PCs

- Running Malwarebytes Free -> Full Scan

- Running Hitman Pro 3.5 (saw that suggested somewhere)

- Running Symantec Endpoint -> Full Scan

- On Router -> HARD RESET pressing the RESET button

- Get into router and setup from scratch again.

- Then get back into some Browsers and boom it's back again.

Seriously frustrated now.

I downloaded HijackThis and following is the Log info...

PLEASE HELP.

- Ken

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

1. Very important: First disconnect your computers from the Internet.

2. Router Reset: Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into the small hole labeled Reset located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 30 seconds).

3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your Internet connection on each computer connected:

  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.
  • Select the General tab.
  • Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    • Under General tab:
      • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically".
      • Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

[*]Click OK twice to save the settings.

[*]Reboot if you had to change any setting.

4. Flush the DNS cache:

  • Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
  • Click on Run
  • In the command window copy/paste the following:
    ipconfig /flushdns

  • Then hit enter.
  • Exit the command window.

5. Reconnect: Once you have followed all the above steps you can reconnect your computer to the internet.
