Spyware Guard 2008

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

My parents' computer somehow got Spyware Guard 2008 on it something nasty and I've been using my feeble computer skills to combat it. So far, I've been able to get MalwareBytes installed and scanning, and it detected quite a few trojans in the first scan. It said it deleted them, but apparently that wasn't enough. Spyware Guard keeps coming back.

I've tried straight out deleting its program files and immediately restarting the computer (not something I necessarily expected to work), just to find it reappearing along with a fake Windows Security Center screen...although Spyware Guard does send up a lot of error messages about some part of it "failing to initialize."

They currently have fully updated free versions of Ad-Aware, Spybot, MalwareBytes, Trend Micro, and RogueRemover on that computer, as well as NoAdware. I haven't run any of these completely after that first scan of MalwareBytes, though I'm planning on doing so tomorrow when I have time. Is there anything else I should try that would help get this stuff off of there?

Greetings and welcome to the forum. To get you fixed up please read the instructions here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936 and post your logs in a new topic here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=7

Please be sure not to install any software or use any removal/scanning tools exept those that you are instructed to by the expert who will be assisting you as doing so can make their job much more difficult. I hope I was helpful. Good luck and safe surfing
