Hi

I used Malwarebytes to hopefully remove two trojans:

Trojan.FakeAlert

&

Pum.Disabled.SecurityCentre

Malwarebytes also deleted several files in the computer's registry (which uses XP).

These were:

Registry Data - H key_local_machine software/microsoft/Security Centre/AntivirusDisableNotify

" " " Firewall Disable Notify

" " " UpdatesDisableNotify

This seems to have removed the fake Total Security XP program.

I ran the computer in XP's safe mode to remove these, then after I reset the computer, I noticed that I was unable to access System / Security Updates in XP.

To open Firefox it wouldn't open when I clicked on the icon, instead I received an association program screen asking me to find the file name (the tick box to remember the program in the future was blanked out in white).

Does anyone know how I can access SYSTEM and Security Updates, as well as automatically run associating programs again. ZoneAlarm needs to be manually associated each time, instead of coming up automatically.

If anyone could help I would be most appreciative.

Thanks

I forgot to say it was in Control Panel I was denied access to System as well as Security Updates.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, please download exeHelper from one of these two places:

http://www.raktor.net/exeHelper/exeHelper.com

http://www.raktor.net/exeHelper/exeHelper.scr

Save it to your Desktop and run it. When it finishes, restart your computer and see if you can run .exe files now.

Next, please download and run WUS_Fix.exe from here: http://users.telenet.be/marcvn/tools/WUS_Fix.exe

This should restore the default Registry settings related with BITS and Automatic updates.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.
