C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\msconfig.exe

Backup should be there .

This is obviously a file on each and every xp system so if we were FPing it there would be loads of reports .

I needs to know a few things to figure out what happened here .

What OS do you have and what language .

I need the scan log from this incident .

I know of a worm that replaces msconfig and a few others and that could be the case here , the MBAM scan log should say .

You can try this:

Insert your XP CD into the drive and enter the following command:

(Where "X:" is your cd-rom) (Copy & Paste to prevent syntax errors)

EXPAND -R X:\I386\MSCONFIG.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\BINARIES

This will extract a new copy of the MSCONFIG.EXE from the CD.

Now, open Notepad.Write this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE]@="C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHealth\\HelpCtr\\Binaries\\MSConfig.exe"

Save file as msconfig.reg

Run the file and click YES.

Hope this help.
