To cut a long story short, infection was obvious at 6.40PM on Dec 3rd.

Screens and screens of gambling and bogus anti-virus sites.

System Restore points all disabled.

The shell stopping and starting.

At this point, I rebooted the box to my alternate XP on this dual boot machine.

I used it to examine the infected partiton, and except for running safemode a couiple of time, I didn't boot up the infected system normally until

11.30 PM - at which point Windows Defender caught some things and asked me to reboot.

This stabilized the box enough so that I could do some more cleans. (See the other post)

At the point where I thought it was clean I noticed a Rundll32 active that looked suspicious

and involved the use of XP's Task Scheduler.

I just ran ESET and it said 0 infections, so no log.

Hi.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Caution: This program is for Windows 2000, XP and Vista only

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
    NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.
    NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Restart your computer and post a new HJT log please.
