Recovery of Deleted Files

Recommended Posts

Hello, a trojan was downloaded onto my laptop.

After searching the web, I found the Antimalware program, downloaded it and ran it. It seemed to work quite well.

However, this weekend, I realized that all the files I created (word, photos, other) have been deleted.

What is the process for restoring lost files. There are thousands of files I would like to get back.

I would really appreciate any help.

Btw one of the most recent infections just marks your files as hidden and they are most likely still there. You probably had one of the rogue antivirus infections.

Follow the correct link below for your os. Vista, 7, or XP

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hidden-files

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx?mfr=true

If this turns out to be the case you can go to the parent folder of the files and uncheck the hidden attribute for the folder and apply it to all childs and that will show the files as they should be.

ShadowWar, you're awesome!

That's exactly what was going on. I followed your suggestion and found all the files were just hidden.
