Vista Security 2011 and now I cannot run exe files

My Vista computer was infected with Vista Security 2011. Now I am no longer getting the Vista Security 2011 windows popping up and the icon is gone from the tray, but I cannot run any exe file. I have tried to run as administrator and I have rebooted in safe mode to no avail. If I double click on a file associated with a program the program will open. For instance, if I try to open "WOrd" it will only open the "Open with" window. But if I double click a word document, word will open.

I ran a Vista Security 2011 fix that I found on the McAfee site. It included running Malwarebytes, but the program won't run since it is an exe file. com files don't work either.

What can I do?

Download this Regfix and save it to your Desktop:

Do not run it yet.

Please reboot to Safe Mode With Networking (tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load and select the Safe Mode With Networking option from the menu).

Run the exe fix, then rename mbam.exe to explorer.exe; see if it will update and run now.
