Hi All,

I have the joys of trying to repair two infected household pc's on a XP Home Edition platform.

The problem has progresed to the point of no internet access (checked proxie setteings already), in IE I can't even access the tool bar option to verify proxie but I can locate this in Firefox and the proxie setting is unchecked. I was able to verify this at one point in IE before problems progressed and this did not help at the time as the proxie setting was unchecked in IE.

So, I have a bunch of work still ahead of me but my question is this, using another working pc I downloaded malwarebytes & updated the virus deffinitions, I then copied the rules.ref file over to the infected computer, ran the scan & no infection were found. The one thing I noticed is that the rules.ref aprrears not be recognized by any progam files on the infected computer, it looks like the michaeljackson.ncx file in this link > http://ebooktest.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/mjoebps.jpg

But on the computer I downloaded it from it looks like a recognized program file (note pad file?), but this is using windows 7 so I'm not sure if this changes things.

I have a feeling that I need to uninstall & reinstall malwarebytes. I saved it to desktop originally (the reinstall will be downloaded to my C: drive) & named it j-setup but prob have to rename it to mb.exe and try this all over again.

I will post my full history, problems & attempts in removing the virus in another sub forum but I wanted to see if this file was not being recognized during full scan procedure.

Thank you in advance!

Jay
