So, I did a scan, but what needs to go and what stays? I'm clueless. I got on to the scan thing having googled how to get rid of Chinese symbols..

Thank you so, so much for the advice. I'm a complete novice I'm afraid and opted to finally persue cleaning up my PC with a hangover the size of a small continent. (I spent yesterday afternoon in a park with friends and some wine for the first time this year and have been paying for it all day today so far). Anyhoo, I have successfully done the malware scan thing and it looks as though I'm now clean.
