I am unable to update my MalwareBytes with the latest info. This is happening on 2 different computers. One running Windows 7 and one running windows XP. The error that is given is:

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (122, 0, MultiByteToWideChar) The data area passed to a system call is too small.

The version on Windows 7 is a paid version and the on Windows XP is the free version.

Need some ideas of what to try? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled. I have CA Antivirus on both machines as well and I've excluded the MalwareBytes directory and files from CA.

Any advice? I can't seem to find anything on this particular error.

Hello Rok,

What firewall are you using?

Please check your firewall settings and ensure that these two processes are being allowed through:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

Thank you!
