First time I have really tried to use a Forum

So first may i say, "Hello to all",

64 years old, had a great interest in Computers back in the days of AMIGA . Eventually became entwined in said present day and age of Networking.

Kicked off signing-up via IE etc and then it happened,

1. Virus Infection

sorted othat out and went on to eventually install Anti-Virus (NORTON - still think they are the best, just a personal view.

Lost my old PC trying to repair a TROJAN attack

Bought new Laptop, loaded with VISTA (Grrrrr), and sure enough was recently attacked from all angles by MALWARE plus + + +. Took nearly 1 week to sort that out and have simply joined to try and learn just what all this SPAM + MALWARE + VIRUS etc is all about ????? Will no doubt not be writing much more as said, I'm trying to learn, but this crazy world is motoring too ruddy fast for me. Today I Installed McAFEE and it did not find anything till I told it too SCAN my PC, sure enough 2 problems detected and deleted.

Visited Wikipedia, typed in SPAM (Electronics) and learned how Multiple Gl;obal business firms now see such as the coming of a second PROFIT.

Shocks me to know we are heading toward a harder fight to keep our PCs Clean.

Trying hard to put a block on so called COOKIES. Are they really needed ???

Trying to keep all PORTS closed

Been reading HACKING EXPOSED - carries tons of info, but unless one is high up on CC++ etc. it all becomes a blob of multiple confusion. the Wikipedia -SPAM info - explains how YOUTUBE is one place to tread careful, and I just wonder what our NETWORK SERVER COMPANIES are really doing to help give us just what we really pay for. Seems we are paying to be seriously infected and to me that stinks.

Please return views and PLENTY advice or I will have to ditch the PC and find a new Hobby

Hope your not running Norton and McAfee on the same computer. Running two or more antiviruses can cause problems.

Cookies are needed for signing in on to sites and forums such as this one. You can disable them, but you may have problems staying signed in.

Hacking isn't important to know for protecting your computer. Some of it can get you in trouble.

Howdy Buttons,

In reply, "No I am only running McAfee", the out-dated Norton (Which I do prefer- was removed prior to the installation of Mcafee. The early infection/s - 22 actually;

were noticed to contain ad.yield manage. At present using a new Laptop, around 18 months old, Norton expired and I have to wait until our Son gets time off work so I can then purchase NORTON 360 and use that instead of Mcafee. Just a few simple questions;

1. Would it be safe to Download 'Malwarebytes', Anti-Malware and use such with Mcafee ??

2. Used RALPLAYER twice - each time I got rid of such in came Malware, 1st time ad.yield manager got through 2nd time Mcafee Blocked such is REALPLAYER dodgy ??

Will not be asking anymore and aplogies for perhaps wasting time, Did manage to Dowmload and use - with Vista - my old favourite, namely ZTREE. Gives me a chance to inspect more files including Cookies etc. prior to ditching such. ZTREE is a newish version of XTGOLD.

Cookies aren't really dangerous. Look here for information on how to remove them without using any third party application.

Now for a word of recommendation. I wouldn't recommend McAfee OR Norton to anyone, because there are better security applications in my opinion, such as avast!, Avira or Kaspersky. I recommend you avast! free (click on the Download button below where it says "Free Antivirus"). And yes, Malwarebytes will work with any of those.

Please, don't hesitate to ask anything!

I already paid alot to get NAV lifetime licenses for all the pc's but if we start having major issues, I may just do that.
