The database is still not updated - now 23 days out of date - so not much help in removing the malware which is preventing my laptop from accessing the internet. :(

Hello and welcome, songster:

Sorry to hear you are having problems with a computer infection that is preventing you from updating MBAM.

I am just a home user (IOW no control over the manual database updates).

However, until a mod or admin checks in, if you have access to another, clean computer, you can try this:

ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.

SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. The database file is stored in the following locations.

* Windows XP and 2000

* C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

* Windows Vista and Windows 7:

* C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

That said, we do not specifically work on malware removal in this particular forum.

So, is the workaround isn't feasible, and you are still infected, if you would like expert, free, one-on-one assistance with checking and cleaning your system, here's how to get started:

1. First, please go to THIS PAGE, print out, read and follow as many instructions as you can, skipping any you are unable to complete.

2. Then, please describe your computer's symptoms as best you can and post the requested logs by starting a new thread at the Malware Removal-HJT forum.

One of the authorized, trained experts will then assist you as soon as possible for one-on-one malware detection and removal.

When you post, please be sure to select Track This Topic & choose one of the email options, so that you will be notified when someone responds.

Please allow 24-48 hours before bumping your thread.

Other Support Options:

Alternatively, as a paying customer using MBAM PRO, you may wish instead to start a support ticket by contacting support at: support@malwarebytes.org; or

Premium, fee-based support options are available here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/premium-support.php.

Also, please use the "Add Reply" button when replying here & at the other boards, so that it will be easier for everyone to follow the thread.

I hope this gets you started on cleaning up your system,

Well, I downloaded the manual update today from the following link: http://data.mbamupdates.com/tools/mbam-rules.exe

It says it's supposed to be updated at least every week. The database is 12 days old. The page said to let someone know if the update frequency was beyond 7 days, so here you go - I'm letting you know.

rules.ref from mbam-rules is still dated March 17! That's 29 days out of date.

If this is not being updated anymore then why not delete it.

What's going on?
