I ran a Panda Scan. The results were not displayed as in the tutorial. All I got was this: Summary of your last scan:

12/2/2008 4:10:46 PM

Results: No viruses or spyware were detected.

Suspicious items: No suspicious files detected.

Vulnerabilities: No vulnerabilities detected.

There is no 'green button' to click on, after the scan ends. Just 'Summary Of Your Last scan' - see above.

Should I now post the MBAM & Panda Scans?

Yes please. And let us know what problem it is your having?

Dear Raid,

I'm struggling a bit with this. Here is my initial query, posted 22/11/08:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had Malwarebytes for three days, now. I took my PC into my dealer for its six-monthly 'Health Check'. They installed the software. The problem I am experiencing is this: after I've done a 'full' scan & try to open Mozilla Firefox, my default browser for years, the PC immediately re-boots; screen goes blank in a trice, then bleeps, whirs & crawls through the tedious opening ceremony... When I next open Firefox, the 'Thank you for installing Mozilla Firefox' screen is displayed. Not to mention all of my add-ons, in ten or so tabs, thanking me for installing them etc. This has happened every single time I've run a 'full' scan. The 'quick' scan seems to affect Firefox not a jot.

Something's afoot! Has anyone any advice; other than uninstall 'Malwarebytes, that is...?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a nut: I dare not run a full [Malwarebytes] scan , due to the problems explained in the above. I was advised by 'exile360' to run the various scans & post them on this forum. I have since done this. I had a reply from someone who told me to run yet another scan. I had two pieces of malware, 'Trojan.Fakes', on my initial scan; I wiped them out immediately.

He said the 'FPs' should be gone - He assumed that I knew what an 'FP' was; I do not. I am no computer maven. My problem, however, isn't a couple of 'Trojan.Fake' jobbies: my problem was & is the Firefox problem, explained at length in my initial post. I am not prepared to stop using the browser of my choice due to the incompatibility of this software.

Though I do believe that 'Malwarebytes' is a good piece of kit, & well worth having, the problem that I have seems to be an insurmountable one.

Thanks for your time. All the scans that I was asked to supply can be found on this forum.

Regards,

Agrippa.

Okay. Thanks for providing me a bit of background. Which version of Firefox are you running?

As you have done a full scan before, do you still have it's logfile? You can check by opening the program and hitting the logs tab. If you do still have this log, please post it here for me.

Another question, if you do a full scan and select not to remove anything, does firefox still get broken?

I am using the latest version:Firefox 3.0.4. No, I do not have the logfiles from the full scans; I uninstalled Malwarebytes after I received no information re, the Firefox problem. The full scans were totally free of any malware. I have never had to remove anything after a full scan. So the answer to your last question is yes, Firefox does still get 'broken'. I've been trying to find someone who can shed some light on this issue since 22/11/08. I've performed the required scans. I've answered all questions fully. I've supplied all requested information. I am, however, no nearer to resolving the original issue. I was advised by 'exile360' to run the various scans & send the results in for analysis.I complied. I received a one sentence reply [re, the scans] that didn't help at all, I'm afraid. Then... nothing. I am peeved at the chaps from my PC shop, really. They should never have installed this software if it was incompatible with Firefox 3.0.4. They are, after all, the 'experts'. So I bowed to their superior knowledge. However, after talking at great length with them re, the Firefox issue - they seem as clueless & you are.

I was rather hoping that you, 'Malware Researchers', would have specialist knowledge of this software, & would sort this issue out for me in a trice... not so...

I thank you for your time. As the problem that I, alone, have is obviously insurmountable. I shall gracefully accept defeat & give 'Forums' (apart from the one in Rome, that is) a wide berth in the future. I do not wish to seem disparaging towards your good self. I do appreciate your time. I realise that I am not a paying customer; you're probably 'Moderating' gratis, too. A commendably altruistic & terribly chivalric act. I am just becoming a tad impatient. I apologise for my increasingly terse tone. Though I have read good things about this software. I don't think it's worth the amount of time & effort thus far expended.

If there are any known compatability issues betwixt Malwarebytes & Firefox 3.0.4, I'd be very grateful to know. I have no problems with malware, gout or whooping cough.

Indeed:

The lark's on the wing,

The snail's on the thorn,

God's in his heaven -

All's right with the world.

Apart from a trifling issue with this software, that is...

I am very sorry you are having such a time with our program. AFAIK, This is the first possible compatability issue I've ever heard of with regard to FireFox. I've been a happy FireFox browser user for several years now myself.

What is very interesting tho, is that you mentioned even if you don't allow mbam to remove anything, during a full scan, firefox breaks anyways... I'm wondering, would it be too much hassle for you to re-run the firefox v3.0.4 installer? It does a bit of housekeeping, and I have seen this resolve the very rare occasional.. awkwardness firefox displays from time to time.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd like for you to reinstall firefox, you shouldn't lose any settings nor addons. It just freshes some registry keys and some configuration files. Once you have, please install MBAM v1.31 (we just released this version yesterday), and do a full scan.

Your issue is ... unique in some respects. We have very specific knowledge of this software. And while I spend a great deal of time everyday working on definitions for it, as well as hunting forums for new suspicious/bad things; I haven't come across the particular issue your having. Even my technical background as a technician for a computer repair shop isn't of any obvious help. We've never encountered this particular issue.

I am sorry that our software and firefox are not being friendly with one another on your machine, and I understand the frustration factor. I suspect something might be going on with firefox, but I understand your not interested in resolving it.

If in the future you wish to try our software again, I recommend you do so.

I know of no issues besides the one you have reported, and I am not able to duplicate the results thus far...

Problem solved by 'Raid': reinstall Firefox 3.0.4. Simple as that. Touch wood...

Thanks for all your help/comments.
