I've been infected by a nasty little virus that displays the following symptoms, (perhaps the virus is well known ?).

Keeps bringing up NoteBook windows asking me whether I want to go onto the Internet to find a program to open my RAR files.

When I try and type anything into the Google search engine it takes the first letter, then inserts random spaces.

It starts the CMD prompt screen and then keeps entering nulls into the command line so that the prompt just keeps scrolling down.

It randomly starts programs.

When I try and start Task Manager to remove the extra processes, it minimises the Task Manager window straightaway.

An annoying virus but, so far, not malicious.

I tried to run an installed version of MalwareBytes from an external hard drive. It appeared to recognise MalwareBytes and came up with an error message mentioning VB Accelerator - whatever that is.

I tried the usual workaround of renaming the Malwarebytes exe. It allowed the copy ok but wouldn't allow the rename, exiting tbe rename process as soon as I pressed a key.

I'm assuming that the steps detailed in the pinned post will get me out of this but, if it recognises MalwareBytes, I'm interested in whether this will affect my ability to get rid of this virus or if there's any other steps/methods anyone can suggest to get around this.

:welcome:

Please don't attach the scan results, use Copy/Paste

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:

1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them

2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")
