hi there,

Recently noticed something weird going on with Malwarebytes where whenever i try to update malwarebytes it prompts that it is connecting to the server, then freezes.

I have tried allowing Malwarebytes through the firewall with no luck, also tried updating while in safe mode with networking which gave me the prompt PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12002, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)

I reinstalling the program with a newer version but same problem

Also noticed that all my security programs now prompt me for UAC, I'm sure this wasnt the case in the past.

I'm running:

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

Avast 4.8 Professional

Comodo Firewall 5.3.181415.1237

Spybot 1.6.2.0

Malwarebytes 1.50.1.1100

Any help would be appreciated

Evan

Well prompting with the UAC for any product that is manually launched and not run as a service with system rights should prompt for you to run with Admin rights.

ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT

12002

The request has timed out.

Seems something is stopping, preventing the updates. As an FYI I would think that you might be eligible for an update to Avast 5 as that is their latest version, but I'm not sure what their update/upgrade policy is.

Considering that you cannot update in Safe Mode either I'd think that it cannot find our update servers.

In the search field on the start flag/button type in CMD and when it shows on the list right click and chose Run as administrator

Then in the DOS console type the following and press the Enter key on the keyboard.

nslookup data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

That should provide you with a response similar to this

Name: gs1.wpc.edgecastcdn.net

Address: 72.21.81.63

Take that Address and then type the following (using the same IP it returns) and press the Enter key on the keyboard.

PING 72.21.81.63

You should get back something similar to the following.

Pinging 72.21.81.63 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 72.21.81.63: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=54

Reply from 72.21.81.63: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=54

Reply from 72.21.81.63: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=54

Reply from 72.21.81.63: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 72.21.81.63:

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 24ms, Maximum = 25ms, Average = 24ms

If you do not get a REPLY response back then something is blocking it.

Please let us know what you get back from the tests above.

Is this the Free or Paid version of MBAM?
