Hi,

Yesterday I was infected by malware called RECYCLER. Didn't click on a link, just looked at a website.

I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran the quick scan as suggested. This found and removed one infected file and one registry entry.

After that I inserted a usb and innediately found a new copy of Recycler on it. I then ran a ful scan of Malwarebytes, but this did not come up with any infections.

I should note I use the business version of Nod32 anti virus, but this didn't pick up the problem either before or during a 5 hour scan.

The quickest way to find the infection is to insert a USB stick into your PC and immediately you will find a file called RECYCLER on it.

A search indicated this thing is hiding in, or has assumed the name of a deleted email file, which now cannot be deleted again.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to remove the beast, short of Format C: which is probably my next move.

It cripples Task Manager and System Restore, and screwed up the Visual Studio solution on which I'm working. A real nasty.

Thanks

John
