I recently got infected with what I assume is some form of viral infection, and it has royally screwed me over. I'm currently running my computer in Safe Mode, as when I don't, it gets a Blue Screen Of Death usually immediately after logging in. The error that usually comes up when I get said BSOD is IRQL_IS_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO, but this is occasionally replaced with something else, or no error is given. I have run both the AntiSpyware MalwareBytes program, and SuperAntiSpyware. The first few times they would come up with results, and I would remove them, but lately I've been getting nothing, but the symptoms keep appearing. I also found a few Processes that were running that looked suss, iexplarer.exe and avp32.exe, and attempted to disable them, but lately I can't get into normal computer mode without it crashing, so I can't see whether I achieved anything with that.

I also have my HijackThis log, which I'm not sure how to interpret, so any help with this would be incredibly appreciated.

Running processes:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

C:\PROGRA~2\FREEWI~1\Regpair.exe

Welcome to Mbam

We need to see some additional information about what is happening in your machine.

Please perform the following scan:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.

[*]Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.

[*]A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool.

[*]When done, DDS will open two (2) logs

    1. DDS.txt

    2. Attach.txt

[*] Save both reports to your desktop.

[*] The instructions here ask you to attach the Attach.txt.

    DDS.jpg

[*]Instead of attaching, please copy/past both logs into your next reply.

[*]Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.

After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.

Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Here's the log, but I now have a new problem. All my files have disappeared. All gone, except for a lonely bootsqm.dat in my C drive. There is nothing else. Judging by how filled my harddrive is, it's all still there, but unseen. I can still access programs that are pinned to my task bar and my Start Menu, and if I go through Mozilla I can access files I recently downloaded, but if I try to navigate upwards, everything disappears again. I also get a few errors as I start up. Downloading MalwareBytes again to run a scan and see what it can find.

Alrighty, another update.

I went into Control Panel and looked at my folder options. Hidden files were hidden from view, so I changed that option, and now I can see them all again. Their attributes were set to Hidden and Read Only, and I'm now in the process of undoing that. While I'm hoping this works, I'm still confused as to how it happened in the first place, and whether my computer is clean or not.

Sorry about yet another post, but for some reason I can't edit posts, so I can't just update my situation.

I noticed a program shortcut for "Windows Recovery" and I thought that sounded fairly suss. So I followed the shortcut to where it was leading, and it was a program with a bunch of random numbers. I deleted the *numbers*.exe, and a few of the other files that seemed to be related to it, and I then installed MalwareBytes Anti Malware again, and it's running a scan now. So far it's located 48 infected objects. After it's finished, I'll remove the objects, and post the log here, then I'll download SuperAntiMalware, and run that to find anything MalwareBytes missed.

Alright, latest update, removed all threats found in MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, downloaded and ran SuperAntiSpyware and ran a scan, no threats found. Now got AVG up and running, and I'm doing daily scans with that, and so far I've remained clean. As far as I can tell, it's gone, and everything is up and running again, but I'm not certain, so I might have to keep in touch

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town.

You will need to uninstall AVG to complete these next steps.

Download Combofix from this webpage: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" .

Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
