Hello there, i apologize if im writing this in the wrong section but here it goes,

I recently got infected with the virus XP Home Security 2011, I believe i managed to remove the virus but I'm still suspicious that the virus might still be hidden in my computer, someone please help me check my computer for the virus? thanx so much in advance =). Here are the things i did to remove the virus.

I am running windows xp, and while reading throughout this forum i managed to fix my computer (I hope). Since the fake pop ups started coming up, i tried to use the malwarebytes program which i had installed previously a long time ago but unfortunately the virus wouldn't let it start, so then i put in a manual registration of this code(1147-175591-6550), which now let me use my firefox/internet explorer. After this, malwarebytes still wouldn't start so i downloaded (rkill) and right after, malwarebytes actually worked and found some viruses, it removedt he virus, so i restarted my computer, then scanned again, found some more viruses, then did another full scan and now it seems to be clean, my computer is working like before, i don't see or feel anything different but i really would like someone more knowledgeable to help me figure out if my computer is completely virus free. Thanx so much in advance...

Looks pretty good.

Enable hidden files:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp

Then have a look in these two folders, if you don't recognize them, please delete them.

I'm pretty sure that they are related to malware.

its running really well although the only problem i have noticed ever since i had the virus is the Windows Automatic Update is OFF and it wont let me turn it on. When i open the Windows Security Center window and i click on "Turn On" i get a pop up window with

"We're sorry. The Security Center could not change your Automatic Updates settings. To try changing these settings yourself, go to System in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates tab, select Automatic (recommended, and then click OK."

When try doing that, the window shows that it already is "Turned On". Although there is the Red Shield with and X in the bottom right corner of my screen that shows that it is not turned on. I had Norton 360, but it expired so i cant even do a regular anti-virus scan. Is there any free anti-virus that you would recommend me and also a firewall? Thanx.

hello MrCharlie, that link does not work so i googled and found the solution for it, this is what i did.

I closed all programs, clicked on

Start, click Run and then type this by itself with nothing: cmd

then i hit enter, then a window popped up and then

typed this, after each line, hit enter then typed the next line, then hit enter and son on:

net.exe stop wuauserv

regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll

regsvr32 /s wups.dll

regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll

regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll

regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll

regsvr32 /s jscript.dll

regsvr32 /s atl.dll

regsvr32 /s softpub.dll

regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll

net.exe start wuauserv

Now, i restarted the computer and the windows update was ON, and i ALSO noticed that a JAVA icon popped saying there is a new update, ALSO there was a VAIO update for my computer, so now i updated everything and my computer is working excellent. I guess a virus that i might have gotten a couple of years ago made my computer not update anything.

But yea thanx for all your help MrCharlie, really appreciate your time helping me.
