I noticed yesterday that both of my icons for my volume control and connectivity are no longer displayed on the bottom-right of my screen. My operating system is Windows Vista Business.

When I left click on the power icon (which shows if I'm running on battery, or plugged in) I select the option "show system icons." It pulls up a window: "Task Bar and Start Menu Properties." Under the heading "system icons," it lists clock, volume, network, and power. Clock and power are checked, but I can't check volume and network. They're shaded in grey for some reason. Any tips?

Thanks

Hello adkinsjr

For Vista, ending explorer.exe process and restarting explorer.exe in the Task Manager.

  • Go to Task Manager and then to Processes.
  • Find explorer.exe and click it then click End Process.
The Windows Task Manger "Do you want to end explorer.exe"? will show, Click on End Process
  • Then click on the Applications tab and at the lower right area, click on New Task.
  • Type in explorer.exe. in the Create New Task box and click OK

That should reset the notification area and your icons should all come back .
