Jagst3r15 Posted March 14, 2011 ID:400061 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Hey all,With Spybot - S & D I have a few questions. What exactly is the TeaTimer and do I need it? And does the Immunize feature essentially do what Spywareblaster does? I am running MBAM PRO and MSE so I hope there are no complications with the three programs. Thanks in advance. exile360 Posted March 14, 2011 ID:400064 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Hello Teatimer is the system monitor. Its primary function is to monitor your system for changes to system startup locations (items added or removed from running at startup). It tends to be a bit resource intensive and with all the rest of your protections, it is likely unnecessary. The Immunization feature does the same things that SpywareBlaster does to a certain extent, SpywareBlaster protects against some items that Spybot S&D does not, and likewise, Spybot S&D protects against some items that SpywareBlaster does not.The biggest difference will be the HOSTS file, which Spybot S&D uses. They both add entries to the Restricted Zone that are known to be malicious.
Jagst3r15 Posted March 15, 2011 Author ID:400092 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Which would you reccomend, SBSD or Spywareblaster? The reason I like SBSD is due to the scan feature...I feel like Spywareblaster doesn't do anything.
exile360 Posted March 15, 2011 ID:400095 Share Posted March 15, 2011 You can actually use both, I have in the past. The reason being because some of the features are different and their databases are different (i.e., they tend to block different nasties), but if I had to choose, I'd go with Spybot S&D because it blocks more and also has a lot more features. DarkSnakeKobra Posted March 15, 2011 ID:400096 Share Posted March 15, 2011 I would say both. Spybot protects against popups for Firefox and Opera plugins which SpywareBlaster only protects against 3rd party cookies.
Jagst3r15 Posted March 15, 2011 Author ID:400097 Share Posted March 15, 2011 I disabled the TeaTimer as it eats up alot of memory. Do I need to add any exceptions to MBAM PRO or MSE for either Spywareblaster and SBSD?Thanks for the responses.
exile360 Posted March 15, 2011 ID:400101 Share Posted March 15, 2011 I've never had to set exclusions for Spybot S&D or SpywareBlaster so they shouldn't be necessary.
DarkSnakeKobra Posted March 15, 2011 ID:400102 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Tea Timer is rather unnecessary. You shouldn't, but I don't think it would hurt to add Spybot/SpywareBlaster directories to MSE just in case.
