DedHed Posted March 14, 2011 ID:399998 Share Posted March 14, 2011 I ran a scan on March 8th and Malwarebytes said I had an extension mismatch. I quarantined the file, but noticed later that Windows Defender was disabled and any attempt to start it resulted in a warning stating that the "application failed to initialize." Before I restore or delete the file, I'd just like to know if it may have been malware or a file used by Windows Defender. Thanks for your time and help.mbam-log-2011-03-08 (00-22-49).txt
Staff shadowwar Posted March 14, 2011 Staff ID:400073 Share Posted March 14, 2011 That should not have anything to do with windows defender. That directory/file is is just for windows search. Extension.mismatch means its an executable file in a non-executable extension.. for example its an .exe file but with a .log extensionMalware commonly does this. You can restore the file and see if it allows windows defended to start but i would be surprised it it does. You can also zip the file and attach it here and we can analyze it.
