MBAMGUI.EXE being blocked at startup?

Recommended Posts

I recently uninstalled MBAM and reinstalled the latest version, trying to see if that would fix the issue I was having getting the scheduled update to run. Now, when my system starts, mbamgui.exe is being blocked from starting with Windows. It appears Windows Vista User Account Control is the culprit. I can manually tell Windows to let mbamgui.exe start, but I don't why this started happening with the re-install. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I have the same problem. MB does not start automatically on Vista.

I believe it may have something to do with Defender. When I go into Defender's software explorer, MB's classification is shown as "not yet classified". I believe fo it to start it has to be "permitted".

I can not see any way to change the classification in Defender.

Just a thought.

After looking at the problem further, I doubt that it is Defender. It seems to be User Account Control (UAC). Now I need to know how to tell UAC that MBAM is allowed.

I only see a way to completely turn UAC off, and this would cause my customers problems, so that is not really an option.

If UAC is blocking it, then there should be a small popup in the lower right corner of your taskbar with a white box and if you click on it it says "Run blocked program" and a menu should expand from the side that shows Malwarebytes'. What this means is that for some reason the program is requiring administrative access. Try unsinstalling Malwarebytes' and then reboot, then reinstall by right-clicking the MBAM setup file and clicking "Run as administrator." After that, reboot and see if that fixes it.

I tried completely removing MB and re-downloading and installing. Whe Vista boots up the MB icon is in the lower right task bar, but when I click it, it says I must UAC says the program needs your permission to continue.

Odd that it would do this because it looks like it thinks it is installing something each time you run MB????

To run a scan with Malwarebytes' on Vista, administrative approval is required, so each time you actually open the MBAM GUI whether by clicking the icon in the task bar or opening from the desktop shortcut or start menu UAC will pop up requiring permission, don't worry it's not installing anything, it just requires full administrative access to be able to scan properly and delete infections if they are found. This is because it must access the registry and system folders to scan for and remove malware and any program that attempts to make changes to these areas requires administrative access by default so UAC will pop up every time asking for your permission. I'm glad the fix worked and got MBAM to start up properly.

Thanks for the quick response. That answered my question.

MB is a killer!! I am removing more crapware with it. I am a reseller and repair house and we sell your product. I get systems in every day that are having serious problems and MB is the first thing I run to get the system going.

Thanks again,
