Hi, i was surfing the internet when a pop-up appeared from scan.scannerantispyware.com. I was instructed that there is a security threat in my computer and I need to have it scanned. I was clicking Cancel but wasn't able to close the pop up, so I closed the browser using the task manager.

Below are the logs from MBAM scan, Panda Active Scan and HiJack This

I guess it's just sheer luck that you haven't been infected

IE6 w/sp2 is an accident waiting to happen, for the immediate future just use FireFox with the noscript addon till you patch all the security holes in your present setup

Your java is badly out of date

And now malware is attacking via outdated acrobat reader

AVG 7 has been abandoned and no longer receiving core updates

I personally use the immunize feature from spybot as specified in these HJT preperation instructions

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2936

You at least have minimal protections from driveby malware with IE6

Hi, thanks for the tips. I'll just add the add on in my firefox and update my adobe acrobat and java.

Would you know where I can download a free version of AVG 8?

Thanks again.

I prefer Avira, your computer is already carrying a heavy load of running processes. You might want to read this newer link

http://www.malwareremoval.com/tutorials/runningslowly.php

I have found many issues to be solved by optimizing a computer, not overprotecting it, there's a fine balance

Make sure AVG 7.x is completely removed first before adding another antivirus
