PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12029, 0, WinHttpSendRequest) with Symantec AV 10

Hello,

I was attempting to update my Malwarebytes before running a new scan on my computer...when the alert came up that my Malwarebytes had not been updated in 7 days, I clicked Update and the error message "PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12029, 0, WinHttpSendRequest" came up and I am unable to update the version of Malwarebytes...I then uninstalled MBAM and re-installed a new download of it...the same issue keeps coming up and now I have an even older version of MBAM...can you help?

I'm having the same problem as well. I've tried with the firewall on and off. I'm running XP Pro and have Symantec antivirus 10.0.0.359, 3-9-2011 rev 2.

A little help please.

Hello Jay,

Is this the Corporate Edition? Names with Symantec seem to be geared for business and those named Norton appear to be more geared to consumers

Please run the following DDS scan and post back the logs. Are you sure you're getting the EXACT same error as well?

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.


    When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt

I'm having the same problem as the last person that started a thread yesterday.

I've tried disabling the firewall, I've went in and gave "permission" in the firewall to Malwarebytes.

I'm runninng XP pro and have Symantec avtivirus 10.00.359 updated as of yesterday.

I would like to be able to update your program that says it's 79 days old.

Please see if the following article helps you to configure your firewall to allow mbamservice.exe and mbam.exe to go out to the Internet for updates.

You can also review this article on how to temporarily disable the firewall

If you're still unable to get updates then please show us a screen shot of the exact error.

These are the files that also need to be excluded but you'll need to go through the interface and find the proper setting location as we don't have an example for the Corporate Edition at this time.

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP:

  • Click Start and select My Computer
  • Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear)
  • Select Folder Options
  • Click the View tab and make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  • Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  • Click Apply then click OK

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Click on the Start vista-7-start.png button and select Computer
  • Press the Alt key on your keyboard and click on Tools
  • Select Folder Options
  • Click the View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  • Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  • Click Apply then click OK

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Norton Internet Security 2011:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security and click on Settings at the top
  2. Click on Computer Settings
  3. Click Configure [+] to the right of Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect and SONAR
  4. Click Add
  5. Make sure that Include subfolders is checked in the small Add Item window
  6. Click the small folder icon to the right of the blank white space
  7. In the Browse for Folder window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files
  8. Click once on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to highlight it and click on OK
  9. Click OK and verify that in the box under The following items are ignored by both Auto-Protect and SONAR: it says C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  10. Repeat steps 4-9 for the following files and folders:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes Note: On Vista and 7 this will be C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

[*]Once you have all of those items in your list, click on Apply then click on OK to close that window and then click Apply and OK to close the Settings window

[*]Close the Norton Internet Security window

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Norton Internet Security 2011 on 64 bit Windows Versions:

  1. Open Norton Internet Security and click on Settings at the top
  2. Click on Computer Settings

  4. Click Add

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Ignore List tab
  • Click the Add button on the lower left
  • In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on Norton Internet Security and click OK
  • Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Hi Chris,

For now don't worry about a screen shot. If you can copy/paste the error please do. IF not then just write down EXACTLY what it says please.

This is what it says:

An error has occurred. Please report this errorto our support team. PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12150,0,WinHttpQueryHeaders)

I was checking some things. That specific error means that it could not read the header for the site page which is a bit different.

Please try the following and see if that helps.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
      Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
