Real Time Update: what does this really mean

Recommended Posts

What does this really mean? How does it trigger an update?

With a laptop that connects to the internet only for short time does it detect internet connection straight away and update?

On the other hand:

A desktop that is always connected does it immediately sense the update and get it quicker than it would if set on hourly updates?

Hello DimwitDuck and welcome to the Malwarebytes forums.

Realtime updates constantly checks with the update server, and will download an update when it becomes available. The option "Repeating every X minutes" is there so that you can set how frequently you want to check the server for an update. The default is 5 min. This is much faster then hourly updates, as hourly updates only check every the server every hour to see if an update is available.

With your laptop, I would go with Realtime updates, since it will check for the update once you are connected to the internet. Once connected, Malwarebytes will begin updating within X amount of minutes, with X being the Repeating option that we talked about earlier.
