whatsitsgalore Posted February 6, 2011 ID:384821 Share Posted February 6, 2011 I had high hopes for malwarebytes, but it didn't remove the evil spyware from my computer. It downloaded to my desktop okay, but I can't run the program. It starts to open, but then is shut down by this spyware, which has created a bogus user on my computer. It won't let me do anything. Is there any way you can help me? Please? daledoc1 Posted February 6, 2011 ID:384824 Share Posted February 6, 2011 Hello and welcome, whatsitsgalore:The malware is probably blocking MBAM from running. There are some tricks you can try to outsmart the malware.Check here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=17607 and here (scroll down to issues 5 & 8): http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138If still a "no go", then you might need to need to have one of the authorized experts take a look.Alas, we do not work on malware removal in this particular sub-forum.Instructions on how to proceed are posted in the 2nd Important Topic pinned at the top of this forum: "I'm Infected - What Do I Do Now?".To summarize:Free, expert assistance can be found at the malware removal-HJT forum. Please go to this page, print out, read and follow as many instructions as you can, skipping any you are unable to complete:http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=69723Then please post your logs by starting a new thread here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showforum=7One of the authorized, trained experts will then assist you as soon as possible. When you post, please be sure to select Track This Topic & choose one of the email options, so that you will be notified when someone responds; allow 24-48 hours before bumping your thread.Alternatively, as a paying customer, you may wish to start a support ticket by contacting support at: support@malwarebytes.org, or by using one of the other support options here:http://www.malwarebytes.org/premium-support.phpAlso, please use the "Add Reply" button when replying here & at the other boards, so that it will be easier for everyone to follow the thread.Hope this helps to get you started, until one of the experts arrives,daledoc1
whatsitsgalore Posted February 7, 2011 Author ID:385261 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Thanks, but I contacted a friend who helped me get into computer's safe mode. From there, I was able to run antimalware program. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.
daledoc1 Posted February 7, 2011 ID:385277 Share Posted February 7, 2011 That's good news that you were able to run it in safe mode. However, MBAM is engineered to be run in Windows normal mode (with all drivers loaded), so that it can clean most effectively. An MBAM safe-mode scan is really only a first step in the process.I'm not an expert, but I think it would be a good idea for you to follow the initial instructions at the Malware Removal forum (see link in my previous post), including:-- running MBAM full scan in NORMAL mode;-- running Avira free;-- and the other recommended steps, to be sure you are clean (just because the initial symptoms are gone doesn't always mean your system is 100% clean). And it couldn't hurt to have an expert review your logs -- it is free and the help is expert.Better to be safe than sorry. That said, it's entirely up to you, of course. Take care,daledoc1
