My browsers are being directed to a new start page (Qooqlle) after installing a video codec.

Malwarebytes detects and removes it only to have it reinstall itself after restarting.

I have gone into the registry and deleted the items that I find when searching it for qooqlle.

I have removed it from my search engine in Firefox. It just keeps coming back!

I can usually get rid of theses pests on my own, but this is the first one in years that I can't seem to nail.

Any help would be appreciated. Everyone reference to qooqlle I've read on the net has not helped me.

OK, here's what I got from Virus Total for the first file (DEVLOAD.EXE)

MD5: dd6fa14d0e2c99ec5eba2498d64aea6d

Date first seen: 2009-06-01 07:11:33 (UTC)

Date last seen: 2010-11-07 09:20:09 (UTC)

Detection ratio: 0/43

As for the reader_sl.exe, I don't see it in the that folder (AppData\Roaming)

I do remember looking that one up yesterday. The info I came across said it was Adobe's speed reader.

Thanks for the info!

No, Reader_sl.exe should not be there, it seems a part of your problem. See the name the filename => Readar_sl.exe . It seems a hidden file, let's collect it.

First:

  1. Please download the Suspicious File Packer (by Safer Networking Limited) and unzip to your desktop.
  2. Run sfp.exe
  3. Copy the following part of code box into the SFP window:
    C:\Users\Rusteater\AppData\Roaming\Readar_sl.exe

  4. Allow SFP to pack the file and then will be generate a CAB archive on your desktop.

Second:

  1. Please visit this website: Submit Malware Sample
  2. Against the inscription: "Link to topic where this file was requested:", insert links pointing to this topic.
  3. Against the inscription: "Browse to the file you want to submit:", click on the Choose... button. Navigate to the CAB file which will be called requested-files[ * ].cab (the * stands for the date and hour).
  4. Against the inscription: "Leave any comments, further information about this file, or contact information:" should be written as follows:
Sent at the request of Borislav.
  5. Once you're ready, click the Send File button.

Good!

Let's clean this crap.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Open Tools -> Options -> Main tab
    • Set to Always ask me where to Save the files.

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

CF_download_FF.gif

CF_download_rename.gif

[*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.

[*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

[*]Close any open browsers.

[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Close any open browsers.
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

[*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.

[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you.

[*]Please post the C:\Combo-Fix.txt for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Then drag the CFScript.txt into the ComboFix.exe as shown in the screenshot below.
