Quick question re: download location

Recommended Posts

Hello, just checking to make sure that I'm getting the correct download location for a fresh install from the site and something isn't redirecting me. From clicking on http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php I get redirected to http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti...&tag=button, but the actual download link within leads to a ridiculously long file name residing at http://dw.com.com/

dw.com.com seems to be flagged as a bad site in some places, though I have the hunch it's just content delivery for cnet.com - I was a little suspicious so I thought I'd ask prior to installing it to make sure I'm not going to get a nasty surprise. :welcome:

Thanks.

That is NOT normal!!

The MBAM installer file name should begin with mbam-setup-XXXX.exe where XXXX stands for the version info. Something is drastically wrong. The Redirecting to the CNET download location is normal but the redirect to hxxp://dw.com.com/ is NOT!

Try this alternative download directly from MajorGeeks.com:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html

The installer download is mbam-setup.exe .

If you're still experiencing suspicious redirection then you should get checked out by following the procedure in this topic:

I'm infected - What do I do now?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I did a little more searching after I posted and it does indeed seem to be the content delivery for cnet, owned by them, and I have actually installed it now after confirming it was owned by cnet so I'm hoping it's ok :welcome: I also wasn't all that clear - I have automatic redirect disabled in my browser, and the redirect link itself was just from dw.com.com. The exact redirect link on the cnet page is actually http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=...t%3Ddl-10804572. The file itself is named mbam-setup-1.50.1.1100.exe, and the file itself after the redirect seems to come from http://software-files-l.cnet.com (if you click on the dl.com.com link it should take you to where it took me to download the file, I'm hoping it's ok :).)

Thanks again in advance.

I can see the intermediary hxxp://dw.com.com pass thru, and if I hover my cursor on "Download Now" button, the lower left corner of my screen will show that address, though my browser address stays on cnet. I am sure you got the "real thing" since this is the correct installer:

mbam-setup-1.50.1.1100.exe

Ah yes, my browser does stay on cnet - it's just the intermediatary link location that set off alarm bells for me initially. But if it's okay then great. I got very worried after I installed it then saw that it may not be legit.

But thanks very much, I can relax now. :welcome:
