Search engine redirect virus - google, yahoo

Recommended Posts

I am having a very difficult problem with my search engines (google, yahoo) being redirected. This as affected 3 of my computers, including my company laptop. It all started 2-3 weeks ago. Initially it just redireted (hijacked) the searches to their own websites (which I could live with) however it became more aggressive as I got more aggressive in wacking it. Eventually it disabled Spybot, and infected important files (.dll's I think) which disabled access to the internet all together.

I went as far as to reinstall Windows Xp on this computer and within 1 week of almost no internet usage, it's back. I am very frustrated.

I think one of the guilty parties on one of the computers is called happili or happilli and if I disable dumprep on my company laptop at boot-up (thru task mgr) I can use my laptop. If not, I can't do anything on it. I've tried a variety of combo of anti-virus and malware programs, but I can neither detect or remove it.

I already followed all the procedures from forum 9573 - "I'm infected - What do I do now?, Please follow these instructions to clean your system"

This is not how I wanted to spend my Christmas vacation. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Maniac

I work for a small NGO (a humanitarian aid org) & we have no IT support.

I am the only one who uses the laptop, but at the same time it's the only way I can do my work.

I am not opposed to wiping it clean & reinstalling Windows, but since this computer got re-infected so quickly, what's the use. Once I figure out how to stop this thing on this computer, I will take care of the other two.

It's good to know an "expect" is looking into this. Thanks

Hi!

I guess is corporate owned machine or not?

As a business computer you need to have a license for use of MBAM. Please send a private message with your Cleverbridge order reference number to AdvancedSetup (Manager of Online Support) and they (from the Corporate Support) can assist you.

The computer I sent you info on is NOT a business computer. I will gladly remove MBAM or buy a license for it. However, can you help me with this one & then my wife's computer? Thanks

Sorry about that!

Of course, but you need a new thread for the other computer.

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to "Update" tab and select "Check for Updates". If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Go to "Scanner" tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

  1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log
  2. a new fresh DDS log only
