Two Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Folders

Hi,

After the whole false positive issue with AVG, I was reinstalling Malwarebytes when I noticed it had two folder entries in my system. One folder was empty, assuming it was because it was the previous folder wherein Malwarebytes was. But in a folder above that empty one, there is a Malwarebytes Anti-malware folder (in caps) with a file - MBAMEXT.DLL.

Before I reinstall Malwarebytes, is it possible to find out if having two instances of the folder is normal? And is it normal to have a trace MBAMEXT.DLL leftover after an uninstallation?

It was a left over file maybe from an update or reinstall that did not remove it. You can run the following and it should produce a clean install for you.

Please do the following to see if it resolves the issue:

Windows XP:

• Click on Start and select Control Panel
  
• Open Add/Remove Programs
  
• Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  
• Restart your computer very important
  
• Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  
• It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  
• After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
  
  • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    
  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
    Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or post to ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Thank you for the response. I was just concerned, you know how malware can often rename itself to match legitimate processes and .dlls, I thought this might be one of the cases because one folder is in caps lock and the other seems fine. But both the newly installed Malwarebytes + my AV say its harmless so I think you're right, its just leftovers..
