For no apparent reason, the Malwarebytes red-square with an M in it icon disappeared from my start menu, taskbar, desktop, etc., even when I looked at the mbam program file in the Program Files (x86)-Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware directory.

Have no clue why, but other folks seem to have icon issues from time to time with other programs on Win 7 - I haven't though.

I solved the issue partially by right-clicking the generic-looking mbam program shortcut, selecting "Change Icon" button on the General tab, then using the "browse" selection button to browse to the C:\Program Files(x86)\Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware directory and select the "mbamgui" file. Then 3 icons appeared in the dialog window and by selecting the usual looking red-square with and M icon, and clicking "ok" and then "apply", the normal Malwarebytes icon was back

This method worked on the desktop shortcut, start menu shortcut, etc.

However, I haven't figured out how to change the mbam.exe program file (in the C:\Program Files... directory) icon from the generic to the red square with an M icon yet. In case you're wondering, yes, I tried uninstalling, and using mbam-clean and reinstalling, but still have the generic icon for the mbam.exe file in the C:\... directory.

This was on my brand new Toshiba Qosmio laptop, Win 7 Ultimate x64, C drive is an SSD. Malwarebytes v 1.50

Also have Avast! anti-virus running, but not much else, this is a brand new (2 days old) machine.

No malware/viruses/etc. detected.

Other folks have had MSWord icons do the same thing suddenly for no apparent reason, under Win 7 from the blogs I've read. I also have a Win 7 Ultimate x64 desktop that doesn't have the icon issue with Malwarebytes, or any other programs either.

However, I have had a few other glitches with the new version (v 1.50) of Malwarebytes, e.g., first attempt to update database in morning causes a crash of the program (so many others report this same problem here on the forum, I know it's not my end - probably a server glitch in the path to the update), but then restarting the program and running update again always gets through. Had the program crash when just starting a full scan one time as well recently. The previous versions of Malwarebytes that I used never had any of these issues, none at all other than a false positive now and then which got corrected quickly by the company.

Hello:

Check out these threads, which contain suggestions for several fixes for the icon issue:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=67922

If the steps described therein don't fix it, then try the stepwise instructions here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-mai...oncache-db.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819...he-rebuild.html.

(2 methods are described: 1 is a "manual" fix, the other is a batch file which accomplishes the same thing.)

As for your other issues, you'll probably want to wait for an expert or mod to weigh in.

Please post back and let us know how things work out.

Regards,
