Security Tool Removal - via a Anti-Malware and a USB-to-SATA Adapter

Is running the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware full scan against an infected hard disk over a USB-to-SATA adapter enough for completely removing the Security Tool virus (and all other viruses for that matter), or is it suggested to remove it while the OS is running?

It's best to run the scans from the infected pc if you can but running scans from a USB device can remove enough of the infection in order to then run from the infected pc.
