Uninstall wiped out my windows access?

I uninstalled the free version of malwarebytes to fix a problem with two things: "Hard Disk Diagnostic", and my google links were taking me to completely different sites (to sales pitches or whatever.) It fixed the HDD virus but not the google link hijacking, so I went out and got another Norton and decided to uninstall malwarebytes.

But after uninstalling it, ALL my windows initialization stuff disappeared. The display window comes up, but no icons, task bar, nothing if I right click, nothing. All my files are still there when I checked with DOS but I can't log in any more. I am going to have to reformat my computer (thankfully I backed up my files). This software was recommended by someone so I didn't think it would do this. Very depressing to have to re-do my programs and everything. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.
