backdoor.bot/ runtime error 453

Recommended Posts

After overnight scan ran, I had 24 files infected with 'backdoor.bot', and one file infected with something else I didn't write down (thought I'd look it up in the log files after booting, but now MB doesn't load). I clicked it should 'remove/clean/quarantine' whatever, and it seemed to do that, except for somehting it couldn't remove... again, thought I'd write it down from the log file.

I had to restart the computer, and either before or after, MB flashed on and said it was reloading or something. I thought it was strange as it has never done that before, but let it go. Now when I try to open MB I get a 'runtime error 453 can't find entry point database outdatedby mbmam.....' and it doesn't open. Ran a full ESET system scan this morning and it indicated no infections. I have no idea where to go from here... should I reboot? Is it safe or have I already been infected? How do I know whether or not the backdoor.bot trojan has hijacked my computer? Where do I go from here? Your help is appreciated - thanks

Hi,

1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add or Remove programs in the Control Panel.

2. Restart your computer (very important).

3. Download and run this utility.

4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here.

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via e-mail if you purchased it.

After that, update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and see if there are any issues now.

Sorry - obviously couldn't figure out where/how to reply... :-) anyhow, I had run a Hijack This log while I was waiting so thought I'd include it in case it was helpful. Then your site went down?? - couldn't access the forum so haven't followed your intructions yet. Plan to do so now....

Hi, and Welcome to Malwarebytes!

Since you had infections to begin with, you should seek the help from the experts.....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
  • One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.

NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here.

Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible.

PS: Please use the "ADDREPLY" t_reply.gif button instead of other ones when you start replying.

Sorry, but I am confused. Whose response do I follow - Firefox's or Screen317's? I thought I quarantined the virus (es?), but can't get MB to run again. Do I uninstall, then install MB again (per Screen317) and then post in the malware forum, or what? this is all stressful enough - I want to make sure I do the right thing. Not sure if I have the virus, if they were false positives, if files/ personal info ares compromised, etc..... thanks! Lisa

I followed all the steps in Screen317's instructions, have run the quick scan with no malicious items found. A couple of questions remain:

1) Since I completely removed the old version of MB, how do I find out what the malicious items wer that were found in last night's scan?

2) How do I know if they were false positives or if a backdoor virus really had infeced 24 files?

3) how do I know if the backdoor virus hijacked my computer, is taking personal information, etc? How do I know I am safe to use my computer and enter passwords, etc again?

Thanks for your help - Lisa

Hi Lisac -

If you now follow the directions left by Forefox , the Experts can review your system and see if any infections are still there , or if traces of the previous infection have caused/left any internal problems - The experts may ask for logs that review the last month of activity in your system , as they are still there -

Thank You
