Hello, I'm creating this topic for a third time. Earlier versions of it have been taken down, so maybe this somehow violates TOS, but so far nobody has sent me a message to indicate that's the case.

I now suspect that running Malwarebytes might have screwed up my machine by removing certain components of Norton, perhaps because Norton is a competitor? I don't know. In any case, now I'm just trying to get some help for problems with my machine subsequent to running Malwarebytes software. Here's what I originally posted. Please, mods, if you decide to remove this topic again, at least send me a message to let me know why. All I'm doing is seeking help in your forum. Thank you.

Hello. I registered yesterday and created my first post, but it was deleted without explanation, no message to me to let me know what I did wrong. Can you tell me? Here's a copy. Thanks.

Hello all, thanks for creating this excellent forum. I downloaded the free version of MalwareBytes today and it eradicated the dreaded SE2011.exe. Much appreciated! But now I'm in another jam, and I wonder if anybody can help.

First I have to acknowledge that I'm not a computer guy, so these questions and this situation might sound kind of dumb. But what happened is that I allowed the pre-installed Norton 360 to lapse on my Toshiba laptop, and now I can't get rid of it. I see from other posters that remnants of Norton 360 can block browser access to the Web, and that appears to be the case for me. My computer is connected to the Web, but none of my browsers is able to get a page to come up (IE, Safari and Google Chrome). I've tested my network connection several times, and the computer reports there's no problem with the network connection. I have a strong WiFi signal.

I cannot uninstall Norton 360 from my Control Panel, because the computer indicates: "The specified module could not be found."

I recently purchased Norton Internet Security 2011, but I can't install it, because I keep getting a message that reads: "This process is unable to continue because a previous Norton or Symantec product has been detected and cannot be removed. Please restart your computer and try installing again." I've tried that a few times, with no luck. Since I can't connect with the Internet, I'm unable to visit the Norton tech support website to download what I'd need to remove Norton 360.

I apologize if this question is inappropriate for this forum, but if anyone has some advice to help me get my computer going again, I'd really appreciate it. (I'm posting from a different computer.)

Thanks!

They are not in the same sector as us so this argument is both incorrect and impossible. We would be flooded by many FP reports if there were to ever accidentally happen.

As far as norton goes it is so notoriously easy to damage that they created software and directions to aid in getting it working again.

If you have a scan log showing MBAM detecting part of Norton please post it so we can get to the bottom of this.

Here is the support page for Norton:
