Copying signature data base to a second system?

Recommended Posts

I have two systems at home. One is a Windows XP system, one is a Windows Vista 64-bit system. I don't have broadband access, only a dial-up line. I would like to download data base updates (and also program updates, if possible) only once, preferably to the Vista system, then somehow transfer them to the XP system. Is this possible? If so, how?

I notice that on the Vista 64-bit system, I have the following files in C:\Program Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

- config.dat

- ignore.dat

- link.txt

- local.dat

- mbam-setup.exe

- news.txt

- rules.ref

On the XP system, all these files (except mbam-setup.exe) are in the following directory:

\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

It appears to me that rules.ref contains the signature data base. Can I copy this file from the Vista system to the XP system and have that update the data base? Are there additional steps required? Or is this not valid at all?

What can I do to transfer program updates from the Vista system to the XP system?

Thanks.
