Deletion of printers and other funnies

Hi, my wife's computer was attacked by Rootkit.TDSS, which was found by a Malwarebytes scan.

It found 17 infected files which it then said were quarantined and deleted, or deleted on reboot.

Having done this, the conputer was still doing odd things - Google didn't look quite right and random windows started opening up with sites like www.juggle.com. Then when I was sitting here with my son, a porn website opened up.

I downloaded and ran TDSS killer, which found several instances and deleted them.

I have run Malwarebytes - all Ok; AVG - all ok; Spybot - all ok; Adaware - all ok.

Now, today, we seem to have lost all our printers; I downloaded a new Samsung printer driver (from the Samsung site) and tried to install it, but it wouldn't work.

When I try to add printer via the wizard, it comes up and says "Operation could not be completer. The printer spooler service is not running".

I thought I had got rid of all traces of the virus, so unsure what to do next.

start>control panel>administrative Tools>Services>

scroll down to print spooler>right click it>click properties>make sure you are on the general tab>

go down to startup type and make sure its on automatic>then hit apply> Note: If the service shows Stopped, start it.

then click the start button under the service status>apply again>hit OK.

now exit all of the services and administrative tools and go to where your printer and faxes are located and now try to install a printer or try to print.

Hi I followed your instructions, but tried starting the printer spooler and it came up with an error message:-

"Could not start the printer spooler on Local Computer. Error 2 : the system cannot find the specified file"

Now I saw that the file was located at C:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe

Having checked, I cannot see the file at all - would it have been deleted by a virus/trojan?!

My wife also gets the occasional message:-

Intel® PROSet - "Resources are not available". Omce 'OK' is clicked, you can get to the desired file/location.
