Important System file needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I've found that I've been hijacked, and I need an important system file. I need a copy of netBT.sys from C:\Windows\System32\drivers . I need it from a Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1. I think that file on my drive is infected. I could be wrong, but, I just need the file, just in case. So, if anyone could send it to me by Private Message, that would be great. Thanks.

The file should be in your Installation CD, you can run the commands below and it will check the integrity of your files.....

First run this full CheckDisk scan - Cut and paste this code into the Run box - It will restart your computer and run a full 5 stage check -

Make sure all other programs are closed first - This takes about 30 mins , so let it run and it will check and repair most items -

CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30

Then run sfc /scannow by using the same method as above - If you have your install CD/DVD place that in and run it while this is running -

If there is no improvement then please post back -

Thank You - :)

My computer didn't come with an Installation CD. It just installed. on its own. I can't really explain it. But, it did. Um, would you happen to have a copy of the file? Thanks for replying, by the way! I really hate having this annoying Hijacker on my Hard Drive, eh.

Ok if you did not find anything with a quick scan but you still think you are hijacked then do this.....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
  • One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.

NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here.

Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible.

PS: Please use the "ADDREPLY" t_reply.gif button instead of other ones when you start replying. :)

Hello , and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

Simply because nothing was found by one scanner does not mean that it is for certain clean. I would highly suggest following the advice below and let someone with experience assist you in checking for sure.

Someone will work with you one on one to assist you in that forum.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

Hi -

Where can I download netbt.sys?

Because the netbt.sys file is a Windows Operating System file it's not recommend you download this file from any website.

This can only be installed from a Genuine Windows CD/DVD -

Follow the above directions from AdvancedSetup and we may find this was infected -

Thank You -

Well, I found from Norton that it was a HTTP Tidserv Request. I did a little research on Google, and, downloaded the first app I could find. After a brief scan (That only took 3 mins! No kidding!), I found that, after a reboot, (As it was needed to take effect), the web browser is not hijacked, anymore. But, yeah. Heh. Thanks, anyways, for your help. I'll come by, again, if I need any more help. Odds are, I'll need to reformat my computer, once more, just to restore it to really regular factory condition. Heh. Thanks, again. I hope this helps other people, eh. The app is called: TDSSKiller.exe . Best download I ever had, in a long while. Heh. :D !
