vrp14 Posted November 9, 2010 ID:342098 Share Posted November 9, 2010 Hello. I have been trying to get rid of this thing for a couple of days, but obviously I am in over my head. It keeps coming back. I also have this 'quick defragmenter' popping up as well as my google searches being 'redirected' to the wrong pages (i am thinking this is all connected?). I am having trouble running the rootkit scanner - the computer either restarts or freezes up before it is finished. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Kenny94 Posted November 9, 2010 ID:342247 Share Posted November 9, 2010 Hi vrp14 and Welcome to Malwarebytes Forum! Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate. Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete. Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper.Your proxyserver settings may were altered by malware? Here the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.In Internet Explorer1.Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously. In Firefox1.Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"2.Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.NextDownload TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.Extract its contents to your desktop.Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue. If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue. It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.Click the Report button and copy/paste the contents of it into your next replyNote:It will also create a log in the C:\ directory. Kenny94 Posted November 10, 2010 ID:342516 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Nothing there with TDSS rootkit. Download ComboFix from below:Combofix download* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.You can get help on disabling your protection programs hereDouble click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures. The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement.ComboFix will now automatically install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console onto your computer, which will show up as a new option when booting up your computer. Do not select the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console option when you start your computer unless requested to by a helper.Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see a message that says:The Recovery Console was successfully installed.Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next replyNote:Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

vrp14 Posted November 10, 2010 Author ID:342535 Share Posted November 10, 2010 Tried renaming it, still not working. The pop up box has 32788R22FWFJFW\iexplore.exe in the blue bar. and in the box it says: Windows can not access the specified drive, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item. This box will pop up 13 times then the blue part changes to 32788R22FWFJFW\n.pif for about 10 times then that changes to \nircmd.cfxxe. don't know if that will help. Last time it also restarted my computer.

Kenny94 Posted November 13, 2010 ID:344657 Share Posted November 13, 2010 Drag ComboFix icon into the Recycle Bin. In normal mode please to the following:Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:Tools->Options->Main tabSet to "Always ask me where to Save the files".[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:[*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.[*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.[*]Close any open browsers.[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.-----------------------------------------------------------Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.-----------------------------------------------------------Close any open browsers.WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it startsPlease do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished. If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.-----------------------------------------------------------[*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you. [*]Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" for further review.**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Kenny94 Posted November 13, 2010 ID:344749 Share Posted November 13, 2010 We still have some files to remove. I need to look at another scan. There are some older versions of Java on your computer. These can be a source of infection. [Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 and save it to your desktop.Scroll down to where it says Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) - JRE 6 Update 22 -Click the Download button to the right.Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6u16 with JavaFX 1 License Agreement. Click on Continue. The page will refresh.Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE or Java) in the name.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u122 -windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version. After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.Next, click on the Delete Files buttonThere are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH CheckedApplications and AppletsTrace and Log Files[*]Click OK on Delete Temporary Files WindowNote: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.[*]Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window[*]Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel. To test your Java Run-time, you may go to this page http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xmlWhen all is well, you should see Java Version: 1.6.0_22 from Sun Microsystems Inc.-------------------------------------------------------------------NextUsing Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky Online Scanner 1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:Close any open programsTurn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan. Click HERE to see how to disable the most common antivirus programs.3. Click Run at the Security prompt. The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database. Please be patient as this can take quite a long time to download.Once the update is complete, click on Settings.Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:Spyware, adware, dialers, and other riskwareArchivesE-mail databases[*]Click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan. [*]Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it. [*]Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined. [*]Click View report... at the bottom.[*] Click the Save report... button.[*] Change the Files of type dropdown box to Text file (.txt) and name the file KasReport.txt to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
