JamesJ Posted November 4, 2010 ID:339743 Share Posted November 4, 2010 Although I have unchecked 'Enable protection mode', MBAMService starts. Can I disable it or is there any advantage to having it start even though protection mode is off? Thanks,James

yardbird Posted November 4, 2010 ID:339771 Share Posted November 4, 2010 Yep! your going from Real-Time Protection to Manual Protection If thats what you want to do? Remove the current program - use the Malwarebytes Clean tooland re-install a fresh copy! When you install the new copy, don't check the box under the Protection tab.... maybe you'll tell us why or if the above worked for your needs?..regards

exile360 Posted November 5, 2010 ID:339895 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Greetings MBAMService needs to be running for scheduled scans and scheduled updates to work. Once the protection module has been enabled, even if you disable it, MBAMService will still run and should not be stopped because it runs at kernel level and killing its process could cause system instability. In order to have the service not run you would need to set the protection module not to start with Windows, not use the scheduler and set the service startup type to Disabled. JamesJ Posted November 5, 2010 Author ID:340008 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Got it.I have turned 'Real-Time Protection' back on.I actually turned it off to see if there was any difference in my system's performance. I saw no difference in the performance. No problem. yardbirdThanks,James
exile360 Posted November 5, 2010 ID:340116 Share Posted November 5, 2010 Yes, that's correct. Once the protection module has been enabled, the kernel level core of it remains active until the machine is restarted (assuming it is not set to start protection at system boot).
