In an effort to remove XP Security Tool 2010, I downloaded Anti-Malware on a flash drive (via another computer) and loaded it on the infected laptop. When the program automatically tried to update, I got this error: MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(122,0,MultiByteToWideChar) The data area passed to a system call is too small. What the heck does that mean? I found an old thread on this forum that asked the writer to run a security check. Here is what I got when I did this:

Results of screen317's Security Check version 0.99.6

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (UAC is enabled)

Internet Explorer 8

Antivirus/Firewall Check:

Windows Firewall Disabled!

CA Anti-Virus Plus

CA Personal Firewall

WMI entry may not exist for antivirus; attempting automatic update.

Anti-malware/Other Utilities Check:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Java 6 Update 18

Java SE Runtime Environment 6

Out of date Java installed!

Adobe Flash Player

Adobe Reader 8

Out of date Adobe Reader installed!

Process Check:

objlist.exe by Laurent

Windows Defender MSASCui.exe

Windows Defender MSASCui.exe

DNS Vulnerability Check:

What can I do to get Anti-Malware working correctly and XP Security Tool 2010 off of my computer?

Thanks,

Tess

Hi -

Since the item you quote from was most likely from the Malware Removal area , you will find each fix there is computer specific -

As the system is infected , you may find that you can download Malwarebytes in "Safe Mode with networking" - Always the first option -

As we do not work on Malware removal or diagnostics in the general forums please follow these directions -

Please print out, read and follow What do I do now? , skipping any steps you are unable to complete.

The next step is post a New Topic Here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that

EDIT - Note ; As you do not mention your Antivirus or Operating system , Please add these exclusions to your A/V and any firewall you installed -

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:
