Help: Security Tools and beyond

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not to sure how or where to ask about my problems. I recently introduced myself and spoke a little about my problem, but I'll describe some more and I'd really be grateful if somebody's willing and eventually able to solve my problem.

I'm currently using my laptop to go on the forums, and my problem is in my PC. Here's a little history of my problem:

It all started when I got infected by the Security Tools virus. I was haunted by constant popups, false infection warnings, and the inability to open my antivirus programs. I managed to trace the Security Tools shortcut on my desktop back to the [.EXE] file, which I believed to be the source of the virus, but I couldn't delete because it was a program in progress. So I restarted my PC and logged in to another account, retraced the file, and deleted it. Afterwards, I was able to use my antivirus programs again (except for Malwarebytes), and I used some of the ones recommended for Security Tools and fixed a few problems that I thought were leftovers of the virus. I thought my virus problem was coming to an end, but now I have several other problems that I can't solve.

Logging into the account and a few apps here and there have been pretty slow and glitchy at first. But the biggest problem is with the internet. Somtimes I could Google search something, and when I try to open some webpages (including ones I know I can trust), I end up being led to a completely unrelated website. And sometimes the internet completely fails on me, and I can't use it at all.

And another problem that's been bothering since the virus is that I still cannot open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program, neither through the shortcut nor directly through the app. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it, but that doesn't work either.

Here are some of my observations and attempts:

My PC uses wireless internet. Normally, when there weren't any problems with the computer, the internet icon on the taskbar looks like [image 01]. After I seemingly deleted the virus file, on the occasions when the internet somewhat worked, the icon looked like [image 02]. And sometimes I get [image 03], the icon disappears from the taskbar, and I can't use the internet at all. I tried going into [Control Panel] > [Network Connections], but there is nothing in there!

I also tried system restore, but that didn't fix the problem either.

I tried using various antivirus programs that were recommended for Security Tools, including, Avira AntiVir, Spybot, and Spyware Doctor, and currently, they don't detect any virus infections anymore. But for some reason, I haven't been able to use Malwarebytes at all throughout this ordeal.

So, that's pretty much my problem:

When I got the Security Tools virus, and traced its desktop shortcut back to the file it's supposed to open, and deleted it. I used some antivirus programs to delete some bad files.

Currently, my problem is that my PC and some apps start out slow and glitchy, and the internet doesn't work right, or at all. I don't really know if it's a virus that's the problem anymore, or some damages that were made during the virus problem. My antivirus programs currently detect nothing. And I still wonder why I still can't open Malwarebytes at all.

I'm providing my Hijackthis log if somebody might ask for it.

Sorry for the long read. But if it's not too complicated for some of you, I hope that some of you can make a few suggestions for me.

Hello heyyou:

You may still have remnants that require special tools and expert's knowledge, I would still suggest you follow this post where certain logs are required that experts analyze and guide you for all steps to eradicate them completely

However, you may try something very simple and basic:

  1. Connect your system directly with modem via Ethernet cable to see if Internet works
  2. Create another user with Admin rights to check if the existing profile is some how corrupt

If you could gain Internet connectivity, please go for a fresh install by following these steps. If you have registered version then have the ID/KEY from the system handy, You should also have an email from Cleverbridge with your ID/KEY purchase information

  1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs from the Control Panel
  2. Restart your computer (very important)
  3. Download and run mbam-clean.exe
  4. Restart your computer (very important)
  5. Download a fresh copy from here
  6. Disable Antivirus temporarily. Then install MBAM from the newly downloaded copy after completion it will automatically open update window, please allow
  7. Register it with the ID/KEY (in case of registered version)
  8. Enable Antivirus ensuring all recommended exclusions are still in place

Run a Quick Scan and Copy/Paste resulting text file please

Should you have any other question(s) please post back using MXyBj.png button
