I have not read many topics here and do not know if this was posted before, but I wanted to quickly come here and post my problem.

I've been using Malwarebytes for some time, but the one problem that I always find is that when I think I'm connected and am online, sometimes I'm not. What ends up happening is that when I'm not online and then try to update, the program then becomes broken and unusable till I reinstall it again.

As of now I'm using 1.6 but this problem has been there for as long as I can remember.

I understand how to fix the issue after the fact, the problem is that the issue exists at all. If you ever attempt to update the program while offline, the program breaks and needs to be reinstalled. Unless I'm missing something from your explanation, I think you misunderstood my issue.

Hi -

I hope you actually mean you are running the program Version 1.46 - Current Database Version is 4980 - Or just a typo at your end -

Please read the FAQ area and see Issue #5 -

5 . ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.

SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD . Our database file is stored in the following locations.

Is this the answer you are looking for ??

Thank You -

Yes, it's 1.46, sorry about that.

No, that does not solve my problem. I'll try to explain this slowly and maybe someone can understand this problem. I have Malwarebytes 1.46 installed on my PC. Certain times during the day I have internet access, some times I do not have internet access. If I update the database while I have internet access, everything is fine. If I update the database while I do not have internet access, the program attempts to look for an update but cannot find any updates since I am not online. After the failed update occurs, the program will no longer load the next time I attempt to run the program and the only way to get the program to work properly again is to reinstall it. In other words, if I attempt to update the program database while not online, the program becomes broken and unusable and my only course of action to make Malwarebytes usable again is to completely reinstall it. I don't think I can explain this any better than that. Sorry if was vague before.

Hi again -

You can not update while off line unless you use the options as described above -

The database is updated online only and can not be accessed from off line -

Thank you -

EDIT -

Only try the updates while connected - That is as clear as I can make it -

As you can not download from the internet unless connected to it - It is like trying to access any online program when you do not have internet -

OK as screen317 has said, he has forward this one to one of the developers to see what they come up with.

I am not on the Malwarebytes staff or development team so the below is what I tried.

I have Windows XP SP3 32bit, Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, All updates and MBAM 1.46 (with db 4979 which I know there are updates for it). I also have CCleaner v3.0

Anyway I did a clean install of malwarebytes but did not let it update for now. I did however update it by coping the rules file mentioned above.

While disconnected to the Internet, I tried to update the Malwarebytes, and I got the error: "MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007,0,WinHttpSendRequest)" which is expected because I am not connected to the Internet.

I then closed out Malwarebytes and tried to open it again. It opened just fine. I rebooted and opened MBAM once again, no errors. Still offline I tried to update again. Got same update error. Closed MBAM and then reopened it. Every time I do this, MBAM does not break.

I even scheduled and automatic update and let it try to update itself while offline and it did that at least three times. I was still able to open MBAM.

I could not reproduce your issue while offline. Lets see what the developers think....

Maybe it has something to do with old files since 1.42 was installed on my PC? That is the only other thing I can come up with. I also just uninstalled MB and started fresh and now it seems okay no matter what I do. Very odd.

The only way to reproduce what happened (I guess) would be to install 1.42 and then update to each new version without uninstalling any previous version. I guess since even I cannot reproduce my own problem that this should be considered closed and a fluke.

Glad you got it sorted. This had to be a fluke. Without the file versions that were there its really hard to say. people state a lot on these forums that the can't connect to the internet and can't download updates do to malware or router issues but it never causes the program to crash to the point of a reinstall needed.

Cheers.

I feel like I was talking to bots this whole time who are not capable of understanding English.
I am sorry that you felt this way , but the first response from yardbird was to clear out remains of older versions (with mbam-clean.exe) and hopefully install a fresh new version of the program might fix this -( If you ever attempt to update the program while offline) While I was trying to get around this problem - I also run XP SP3 32bit and could produce no results other than the above by Firefox - Plus we do also check the questions that come in for existing and known faults , and as it turns out yours is a one off - I also Un/Re install about every month just to check there are no bugs in new downloads (plus I download from differenf mirror sites to ensure they are all OK) -

Thank You -
