Troj or Malware - undetected by Trend Micro or Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I downloaded an FLV toolbar add by accident. After it hijacked my system I deleted it using Windows XP add / remove programs.

After that I ran both updated Malwarebytes and my trend Micro Antivirus - both showed no files infected.

after some research I also ran both with system restore turned off and again no files were identified or quarantined.

There is still something attempting to hijack my browsers.

Whenever I open IE8 or Firefox my Trend Micro block website block pops up.

the blocked website it is trying to re-direct to is nanocloudcontoller.com

I did some research on this website and was only able to find this information threatexpert.com: http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md...b2d6169cf703468

I went through my system looking for the files and registry modifications and keys noted there and found none.

------------------------------

I cannot log in as admin to run defogger

I ran DDS (not posted due to personnal information) and results are attached

GMER rootkit caused system crash -

Upon restarting (and it took a very long time to restart) I noticed that am no longer getting the Trend Micro pop up to block access to the malicious website

Hi,

Please go to VirusTotal, and upload the following file for analysis:

c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe

c:\windows\explorer.exe

Post the results in your reply.

  • Download the file TDSSKiller.zip and extract it into a folder on the infected PC.
  • Execute the file TDSSKiller.exe by double-clicking on it.
  • Wait for the scan and disinfection process to be over.
  • When its work is over, the utility prompts for a reboot to complete the disinfection.

By default, the utility outputs runtime log into the system disk root directory (the disk where the operating system is installed, C:\ as a rule).

The log is like UtilityName.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.

for example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.2.0_20.12.2009_15.31.43_log.txt.

Please post that log here.

Neither MBAN or Trend Micro finds anything in my documents (pics, pdfs. excel, etc.) is it safe to move just the documents to a back up device (HD)?

Thanks for all your help - here's the results of the TDSKiller it said no infection found:

Neither MBAN or Trend Micro finds anything in my documents (pics, pdfs. excel, etc.) is it safe to move just the documents to a back up device (HD)?
Yes it should be safe to backup your data.

Next, please delete your copy of ComboFix, download the latest version from here, and save it to your Desktop. Do not run it yet.

Next, please open Notepad. Copy and paste the text in the Code box below into Notepad:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=65970
Suspect::
c:\windows\explorer.exe
c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe

Save this as CFScript.txt

CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

**Note**

When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box--do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.

  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.
