Google Redirect / Win32 Services error

wet

Recommended Posts

hey everyone,

i've signed up out of dire desperation. it seems my computer has been infected with something pretty bad; on the plus side it looks like i'm not alone and some other people may have solved this issue - so hopefully this won't be too traumatic.

while using google search, i'll be redirected to various sites, they're usually blank. also, if i leave the computer on for 30-60 minutes i'll get a notice saying, "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close..." this turns off my audio and adjusts my desktop settings slightly. aside from that, it's not much of an issue. i can run MBAM without a problem, though it comes up with no infections. the same goes for my AVG, SuperAntispyware, TojanRemover, and Combofix. the problem persists and just now, i've done a non-destructive system recovery and it still will not go away!

any help will be appreciated, and i'll do whatever i can on my end to get the issue resolved. i'm pretty sure you're going to need a few logs, so i'll get the ball rolling with my hijackthis log. i'm currently awaiting GMER to finish scanning, i'll post that log when it's finished.

I have this same issue going on. First time I have EVER had a problem I could not clear up with a few runs of anti-virus software. And I have been online since 1995. :)

Anyone have any suggestions? Specific ones that WORK?

Agreed. Same here and I consider myself semi-computer savvy. I wouldn't waste your time doing a non-destructive recovery, as that just created more of a headache and didn't solve the original problem. Sorry to hear we're in the same boat, but at the same time I'm somewhat relieved I'm not the only one with this issue...apparently it's a recent viral epidemic.

To anyone else, I'm still awaiting the results from my GMER scan. I'll post it as soon as it's finished.

:)

Please don't attach the scan results, use Copy/Paste

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:

1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them

2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop

Download Mirror #1

Download Mirror #2

  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • It doesn't take long to run, once it is finished move onto the next step

Next:

Please read carefully and follow these steps.

  • Please download
TDSSKiller.zip
  • Extract it to your desktop
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • Press Start Scan
  • Only if Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
  • Then click Continue > Reboot now

[*]Copy and paste the log in your next reply

[*]A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root directory, root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

please post the contents of that log TDSSKiller log.

Thanks for your response. I'm proceeding with the GooredFix, do you want me to abort GMER or wait until it's finished before I begin the TDSSKiller which would involve a reboot?

So far, so good :)

I've used Google for about 5-10 minutes, no redirect and the pc has been on 9:30ish and no Win32 Services failure. Only one error came up in the second program you had me run, I "cured" it as instructed so hopefully it's been resolved.

Thanks a million for the help. Maybe it's paranoia, but I'll be at the computer for most of the night - if the problem picks back up, I'll respond to this thread rather than create a new one if that's all right. But, if we're home free...thanks again!
