Is MB by itself enough?

Recommended Posts

I have been running AVG up to now but have quit using it because AVG 2011 disabled my machine.

I've been a satisfied MalwareBytes user since 2009.

Is MalwareBytes all I need on my system? Does it scan incoming email for viruses? It does a very good job for me of blocking bad web sites.

Thank you.

Hello GLESgunn:

MBAM by no means is a substitute of an AV, rather is designed to work alongside. You may choose one of the following (listed in alphabetical order), they all are free

  1. avast
  2. Avira
  3. MSE

However you have to apply exclusion for MBAM to avoid any conflicts. If you could provide details about OS including 32/64-bit someone will help

You need an anti virus application and as I use avast! I recommend it.

There are others here that use Kaspersky or Avira AntiVir but it is up to personal preference which you chose.

To be on the safe side I always put exceptions for MBAM on any anti-virus program that I install. You never know some day some av update can cause issues and if you already have the exceptions then you will not have to worry about it. Only takes a couple of minutes to put them there and well worth any issues later.

Thanks everyone. I've downloaded and installed Avast. After a bit of adjustment -- it turned out I had to change all my Outlook email accounts' incoming and outgoing ports so that it would scan mail -- it looks very good. And seems to have a much smaller footprint than AVG.

I've set it to do quick scans daily and a thorough scan once a week. I trust that's OK?

GLESgunn

I have only ever run a Full Scan once and usually a Quick Scan once per month.

The File System Shield has resident protection for running applications, opening documents and scans all files upon writing.
