HiJackThis Log

My PC has been running slow as of late, was wondering if anything here looks suspicious. I'm a little worried that I've picked up an infection from a flash drive or external HDD as I've had a number of devices in my machine lately for college. I did a quick scan with your MalwareBytes software and Avira but they showed up nothing. Still, I've only started using windows 7 and there seems to be a lot more reg entries than I'm used to seeing and would just like a confirmation as to whether my worries are justified or not. Thank you very much in advance for any help given! Here's my log;

Hello McDave and welcome to MalwareBytes forums.

You need to insure that your flash/USB drives are scanned. So attach them to your system for scanning.

Show all files:

  • Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg , and then click Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.
  • Click Apply > OK.

Temporarily disable your Avira real-time monitor.

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

For directions on how, see How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Do NOT turn off the firewall

Please download and run the Trend Micro Sysclean Package on your computer.

NOTE! This scan will probably take a long time to run on your computer so be patient and don't use it while it's scanning.

  • Create a brand new folder to copy these files to.
  • As an example: C:\DCE
  • Then open each of the zipped archive files and extract their contents to C:\DCE
  • Double-click on the file sysclean.com that is in the C:\DCE folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
After doing all of this, please post back your results, including the log file sysclean.log that will be left behind by sysclean.

Here are my logs, still nothing showing up. Think it could be my imagination or maybe my RAM is failing. Unless you have further suggestions I'd say we're probably good here. If any of those devices were infected they didn't pass it to me it seems. Thank you so much for your help in putting my mind at rest, this forums gets 11/10 from me, as do the people behind it. I've used this site numerous times on different accounts, and I always trust in your advice. To the point where this time, I came to you guys without even a problem to solve =)

Looks good to me.

If you don't have MBAM, download it. I'd like for you to do a Quick scan with it.

Please download & save Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php or

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe or

http://malwarebytes.gt500.org/mbam.jsp

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.

click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.

If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Reply with copy of the MBAM log.

I figured it out. SearchIndexer.exe was the culprit, it consumes massive cpu and ram usage on some systems it seems, due to the fact it tries to index all known file types and actually seems to have trouble with quite a few(one guy had his pc frozen every time it tried to index a MS Outlook file 0.o).

Thanks again for all the help, as I mentioned in my first post I have mbam on my machine and scan with it regularly now. I appreciate the time you put in! :welcome:
