Judy Lee Posted November 17, 2010 ID:346468 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Greetings - I'm assuming this is an ongoing Startup Lite thread. I've just dl'd it and ran it. It found several items, marked them all disable, and then when I clicked continue it responded to each one in turn "Error on Value: QuickTime Task. There was an error creating a MSConfig key." Then after reporting that error on each of the 7 items in the list, it gave me the message "All actions executed successfully! Changes will take effect after the system is restarted."I don't understand. Is something wrong here?Thank you,Judy Lee

Judy Lee Posted November 17, 2010 ID:346568 Share Posted November 17, 2010 I'm working on a Dell with Vista. I've recently taken my adult son's computer and his girlfriend's computer through your "I'm Infected Forum" and your pros were their usual absolute genius selves at getting them cleaned up. Now I'm going through girlfriend's Mother's computer (my future inlaws - lol - can't screw that up). Something had caused the Proxy Server change, and she couldn't get on the internet. It also had 5 years worth of smoke-saturated dust in it ... ewww! And I'll never tell a soul that I found a little porn on it, too (snicker). I followed the instructions I had been given for the other two computers and was able to get online again. I removed McAfee and installed Avira, ran it and it found nothing. I installed Malwarebytes and ran it. It found a couple of infections and removed them. I installed Spybot and removed about 40 items. I installed Zone Alarm and have it running now. So she should be safe for normal browsing, shouldn't she? I installed Secunia and updated all the programs as instructed.I have fought the nearly impossible battle of trying to remove all the remnants of AOL. It's like having fleas in the computer.I installed TFC, MyDefrag, ERUNT and NTREGOPT, and I'll give her instructions for using TFC every couple of days, and the others every couple of weeks. As you can see, I have been paying attention to what you darling lovable geeks do. I tried to get in the volunteer program on Bleeping Computer, but that is the busiest damn ant hill I have ever witnessed. There was just no room for me. I do recognize that I am in the dangerous middle ground of having a little bit of knowledge. Hopefully I have grasped the concepts, if not all the details.I recalled a while back that I had been instructed (on Bleeping Computer I think) to use Startup Lite on my personal computer, and I really liked that it found some programs I didn't know were starting and closed them down. I thought using it on this computer might give her a faster boot time, but I can't get it to work ... as noted above. Is it a problem with the program or with this computer I wonder?I really appreciate all you do here.Thank you for your time and consideration.Judy Lee
yardbird Posted November 17, 2010 ID:346571 Share Posted November 17, 2010 I would have to say that theres a strong chance the computer you are talking about now has an Infection. The only way to find out is to go into the Malware Removal forum again... make sure your pc is clean before you run programs..... It could be a hardware issue also... smoke & dust can destroy a pc... If you want to get that pc Checked out by our experts, I'll post the instructions, without logs, I don't know what you removed. We can't post logs out here.... If your not infected, then you won't be in the Malware Removal Forum long, they will send you back out here.... so I would advise to let them look at it... I'll put the instructions down here again.... Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have. Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.OrYou may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here. Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible. yardbird Posted November 17, 2010 ID:346576 Share Posted November 17, 2010 @ Judy LeeIf you want to try & run Start up Lite, I would advise to remove the old version 1st. and you can download it here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/startuplite.phpBut Should you have issues, errors, problems, ? My 1st bit of advice would be to go to the Malware Removal Forum because its not the same pc that was in the Malware Removal Forum before.... best regards.... Judy Lee Posted November 17, 2010 ID:346580 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Thank you very much - I'm really glad I asked now.I know about that patience part - the wait on Bleeping Computer a couple of years ago was about 4 weeks.I can't wait till I can be part of that "paying customer" group.Keep up the great work, andHugs,Judy Lee
